Unity Environmental University is seeking a Solution Developer to enhance course management and integrate technology in learning environments. The role involves optimizing the learning management system, integrating AI tools, and maintaining automated systems. Candidates should have a degree in IT or computer science, with skills in API integrations and a passion for user experience. This position is based in New Gloucester, ME and is not remote.

The Opportunity:
Unity Environmental University seeks a broadly capable and curious
individual to join our Learning Experience Design team as a
Solution Developer. This role will focus on supporting our Director
of Cybernetic Design in developing, integrating, and maintaining
solutions that streamline course management and drive innovation in
our learning environments. The Solution Developer will work at the
intersection of technology, pedagogy, and user experience, playing
a key role in optimizing our learning management system (Canvas),
integrating it with our student information system (Salesforce),
and supporting the deployment of artificial intelligence tools
across academic and operational workflows. The ideal candidate will
possess a blend of technical skills, a strong empathy for user
experience, and a passion for interdisciplinary
collaboration.
Day to day responsibilities:
• Maintain automated systems and integrations to iterate
operational efficiency in the following:
• Course-creation and maintenance
• The integration of AI assistants into course creation, student
experience, curriculum assessment, and more
• Maintain and modify, as needed, salesforce
reports/dashboards
• Develop, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot systems
integrations to ensure accuracy and optimal operation.
• Continuously identify pain points and offering solutions for
improving automation processes.
• Participate in interdisciplinary projects combining technology
with social sciences and humanities.
• Assist in basic language modeling and prompt engineering to
support AI use in course delivery and academic operations.
• Support testing and integration of various software
applications and platforms.
• Help troubleshoot and resolve integration issues as they
arise.
• Continuously learn and develop new skills in different coding
languages and technical fields.
• Implement changes and updates to existing automation to enhance
efficiency and productivity.
• Maintain detailed documentation for system configurations,
workflows, and process changes. Work with Learning Technology
Support Specialists and IT to develop new services and test new
academic and learning technologies.

Qualifications
Do you have the skills?
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science,
or a related field.
• Foundational understanding of API integrations, web services,
and scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, etc.).
• Proficiency in at least one scripting or programming language
(e.g., Python, JavaScript).
• Understanding of data integrity, version control, and system
interoperability.
• Experience with learning management systems like Canvas.
• Experience with customer relationship systems like
Salesforce.
• Exceptional problem-solving capabilities and attention to
detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within
a team.
Preferred skills:
• Experience with .NET and Microsoft technology stacks.
• Previous exposure to AI applications in educational or other
settings.
• Exposure to natural language processing (NLP) or prompt
engineering for AI tools.
• Experience developing for a broad userbase with myriad
accessibility challenges.
• Familiarity with universal design and other accessibility
principles to ensure course content is accessible to all
users.

Location: Pineland Farms, New Gloucester, Maine
Just a half hour from Portland, Unity Environmental University
Headquarters, Unity Environmental University Distance Education,
Unity @ Pineland & Sustainable Ventures are based at the
Pineland Farms campus. The facilities are within easy access to one
of the fastest-growing cities for startups in the country.
Work Schedule:
Work hours are specific to the requirements of this position and
can include days, evenings, and weekends. Working extended hours
required as needed. Must be flexible and cooperative in fulfilling
responsibilities and meeting the Institution’s needs. Although
Unity Environmental University employees are generally scheduled to
work at their specifically assigned locations, there are times when
travel is necessary and employees are required from time to time to
attend events, meetings or work temporary assignment at any Unity
Environmental University location.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, it is regularly required
to sit and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to
stand or walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up
to 25 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include
close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception,
and the ability to adjust focus. The use of either hand for
repetitive movements such as grasping, grasping and turning, and
fine manipulation is required as is the ability to use the
telephone for internal and external communications.
